other people's poetry

a poem from a friend

In creeps the darkness
Like a shadow
That never goes away.
Slowly it grows,
It covers everything.
Darker and darker
Never stopping.
You can run
You can try to hide
But you cannot get away.
It envelopes all it touches.
It creates fear in some
And calms others.
Soon the darkness
Is all around.
Just as slowly
As it came,
It begins to recede.
The light begins
To force it back,
The lights begins to cover
All that once belonged
To the darkness.
We begin to see
That what we feared
Was Nothing.
We begin to understand
That the darkness
Only puts a blindfold
On our eyes.
If we see with
Out hearts,
Then the light will
Always be there.
